In NJ Dining
IT’S EVERYONE’S FAVORITE QUESTION:
Found any good new restaurants lately? We certainly have—and this month
we offer our picks for the state’s top
20 newcomers. Each is contributing to
New Jersey’s dynamic dining scene.
The restaurants in our top 20 (and a
companion list of new & notables) also
represent some of the freshest food
trends evident in New Jersey and beyond. Korean is clearly on the upswing,
whether in hip, modern treatments like
Roosterspin in Westfield, or in the Korean fusion tacos and burritos at Mogo
in Asbury Park. On another front, innovative chefs are borrowing time-honored ethnic sauces and techniques to
create sophisticated new dishes, as at
Jockey Hollow in Morristown.
Hungry for more? We’ve also got
previews of six highly anticipated restaurant openings. Our team report
starts on page 34.
FEW PROBLEMS SEEM AS TOUGH TO
tackle as the violence that has racked
Camden in recent years. But Camden is
not giving up. The city has begun an ambitious experiment in community policing aimed at fighting crime by building
better relationships between cops and
the people they are paid to protect. The
new attitude is part of a massive public-safety overhaul that included the introduction in May 2013 of a new county-run
police force. South Jersey bureau chief
Nick DiUlio recently walked a beat with
a pair of Camden cops for a first-hand
look at their progress. His report from
the streets of Camden starts on page 42.
IT’S NOT OFTEN A REPORTER GETS TO
shadow another reporter in her work. So
it was a rare treat when freelancer Melinda Newman got to prowl the back staircases of the nation’s Capitol for her profile of Jersey-born CNN correspondent
Dana Bash. Join in the fun on page 26.
