HOW TO LOOK 10
Dr. Scott Spiro, a board-certified
plastic surgeon, is the founder of
Spiro Plastic Surgery.
Q: Is it possible to actually
shed 10 years in appearance?
A: One of my patients looks re-
markably similar to her photo from
1989 after her recent face-, neck-and brow-lifts. She actually appears
19 years younger! So it is possible.
My goal is always to make people
“the best that they can be,” but never
to look like someone else.
Q: How do surgical and non-surgical approaches compare?
A: In surgical face rejuvena-tion, I restore volume to its natural
youthful state through fat grafting
or transposition. I offer surgical
face- and neck-lifts, often combined
with eyelid and forehead rejuvena-tion. I also perform nonsurgical
“mini” face-lifts, using Botox® and
cosmetic fillers such as Juvéderm
Vollure™ and Juvéderm Volbella®.
Q: How critical is your initial
consultation to your patient’s
A: Our first meeting allows the
patient to establish a rapport with
the surgeon, ask questions, meet
the staff and feel comfortable in
our office. I will examine the individual’s face to discern the issues
and how best to address them. I
take time to listen carefully to any
concerns and to explain all options thoroughly and thoughtfully.
I always schedule a follow-up
appointment to review the exam,
discuss the plan, and outline what
to anticipate every step of the
procedure and recovery.
Q: Does your artistic back-
ground enhance your work as
a plastic surgeon?
A: I see the dynamics of facial
aging—volume loss, tissue sag and
loss of elasticity—more clearly
from an artistic perspective. I can
envision natural aesthetic beauty
as a painter, and then create a
strategy to attain it as a surgeon.

A: The most difficult decision
about an elective cosmetic procedure is how to accommodate surgery and recovery into one’s life and
work. The beauty of CoolSculpting
