ALLISON M. ADAMS, DMD • GENERAL DENTISTRY
“Changing the perception of dentistry requires radical thinking, an exceptional approach to patient care and the
desire to look beyond teeth,” says Dr. Allison Adams of her practice philosophy. Understanding that dental health cannot be separate from overall health, she uniquely combines a patient’s dental and general health history to identify
potential medical conditions. Dr. Adams believes the first 24 years of her practice focused on fixing problems, but the
next 20 are geared toward prevention.
Her exams may uncover signs of acid reflux, diabetes or sleep apnea. “It’s important to recognize small things that
can turn into something bigger,” she says. Mouth breathing, tongue position and posture influence the way a face
grows and can potentially lead to poor facial development, sleep apnea, TMJ disorders or crowded teeth. While this
may sound unlikely, she says, “Many multidisciplinary organizations confirm that breathing issues affect overall health.”
Dr. Adams, who is joined by associate Dr. Celine Lee, works with an integrated team of physicians and physical ther-
apists to offer solutions to pain and disease. A myofunctional therapy program helps sleep apnea patients eliminate
their use of CPAP, and instruction in the Buteyko method helps patients eliminate mouth breathing.
A general dentist, Dr. Adams provides comprehensive cosmetic, implant and orthodontic dental care. This UMDNJ
graduate, a six-time New Jersey Monthly Top Dentist, credits her remarkable team with the office’s success. Guided by
a commitment to excellence, integrity, teamwork, positivity and service to others, the practice continues to change
patients’ perception of dentistry.
