MORGAN’S
ISLAND GRILL
110 Mercer Street, Hightstown
609-308-2108
morgansislandgrill.com
Hours: Tues–Thurs, 11 AM– 9 PM; Friday and
Saturday, 11 AM– 10 PM. Sunday, noon– 6 PM
Price: $
Style: Jamaican food with a deli vibe.
The aroma of jerk spices fills the air in this
quaint and cozy storefront; order at the
counter for take-out or sit at one of the dozen
tables and be served by chef/owner Kenroy
Morgan. Either way, his food is its own best
advertisement.
Don’t Miss: Growing up in Jamaica, Morgan
was taught to cook by his father. He has
honed his skills stateside. Virtually every
dish has island influence. Jerk chicken comes
with rice, cabbage and plantains ($8.50 for
a good-size lunch portion; $12.50 for a large
dinner portion). The sauce on the barbecue
turkey wings is slightly sweeter than jerk
sauce, but just as appealing ($9 lunch; $12.50
dinner) You can’t go wrong with an order of
ribs ($11 lunch; $17 dinner). If you want to eat
the staple dishes Jamaicans adore, try curried
goat ($11 lunch; $17 dinner) or oxtail stew ($11
lunch; $17 dinner). Salads include a heaping plate of greens topped with jerk chicken
($9.50). A side of mac & cheese ($5) or Baccala
fritters ($2) go well with any meal.
Heads Up: Morgan’s accepts every credit
card except American Express.
The Scoop: Lunch prices hold sway from
11: 30 AM to 3: 30 PM. Lunch business is brisk.
No worries—tables turn quickly. Street parking is plentiful.
