Not ready for bold patterns?
This elegant geo carpet is easy
on the eyes and soft on the feet.
DURABLE WOOL RUGS AND CARPET in classic
and updated geometric patterns elevate
the vibe of any room from simple to chic.
Whether a space explodes with bold
shapes like zigzags, chevrons and diamonds, or stays under the radar with more
subtle tone-on-tone patterns, there’s just no
reason to opt for plain Jane floor covering
“A serene home is inspired by color and
design. Our goal is to bring wellness, health
and happiness through the aesthetic of a
room,” says Sima Hakakian, co-owner of

Rug and carpet colors are trending
toward neutral hues such as taupe, cream
and gray. In fact, tastemakers like Benjamin
Moore and Pantone favor creamy white and
pastels, respectively, in their 2016 outlooks.
“The more unusual, brightest colors in the
trend are used primarily as accents—such
as dark blue, teal, purple and orange, com-
bined with softer taupes and light grays,”
Texture also plays a role this year with
high-low yarns (more elegant than old-hat
sculptured carpet), silky finishes, cool shags
and large-loop rugs that create a rich look
without being too busy on the floor.
“New Jersey interior designers want
to make every space in a home inviting
and comfortable,” Hakakian adds. “Formal
living rooms are being transformed into
billiard rooms. Basements are becoming
recreation spaces. And libraries are evolv-
ing into homework areas. The idea of less is
more has found its place in design.”
Founded by Sima and co-owner and
husband Javid in 1989, J&S occupies a
20,000-square-foot showroom with a
dizzying array of 4,000 area rugs, 5,000
broadloom carpet samples and a full
selection of hard surfaces. A Cedar Knolls
outlet center offers quarterly sales.
