IN THE AIR
it’s been a busy year for everyone
at New Jersey Monthly. With new
products, fresh online promotions
and the complete redesign of our print
magazine, we’ve hardly had time to
breathe. But in these turbulent times
for media, no publication can survive—much less thrive—without an
appetite for change.
In January, we launched our first
podcast, “Eating With Eric.” The weekly program is hosted by deputy editor/
dining editor Eric Levin, who does a
great job interviewing some of the most
fascinating personalities on the Jersey
food scene. You can download the
podcast for free to your mobile phone,
or binge listen to our growing archive at
In March, we launched another new
product, Spree, a weekly style-and-shop-ping e-newsletter compiled by managing editor Deborah P. Carter and style
editor Susan Brierly Bush. You know
them from the magazine’s StylePhile
pages. Each week, Spree comes directly
to your in-box with news of sales, style
trends and fashion favorites. Sign up for
free at njmonthly.com.
March also meant craft-beer mad-
ness at njmonthly.com in the form of
our first Jersey Craft Beer Showdown.
More than 28,000 votes were cast in
the bracket-style competition. The
winning brewery? Check our website
for the final results.
In April, we rolled out the New
Jersey Monthly redesign, which I
described in this space last month.
Here’s a big “thank you” for all the
compliments I received from longtime
readers about the design changes.
Naturally, there are more changes
and new products to come. Up next:
the redesign of Side Dish, our weekly
dining e-newsletter, and Weekend
Buzz, our e-newsletter highlighting
the best events around the state.
Later this year, the magazine
will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
We think we are off to a good start.
Wouldn’t you agree?
