RENUKA N. MAPITIGAMA, MD, FCCP
A New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor for the third consecutive year, Dr. Renuka Mapitigama’s mission is to deliver optimal clinical care, as well
as apply the latest clinical research discoveries useful in understanding the pathogenesis of lung disease and improving the diagnosis and treat-
ment of common respiratory disorders. “It’s a tremendous privilege to be entrusted with the care of a loved one,” she says. “I remind myself
every day what immense faith patients and their families levy on their doctors, and how much a responsibility doctors must bear to earn and
safeguard that trust. I am also quite aware that this trust and responsibility do not come cheaply. But it’s a price, in terms of both effort and
dedication, I am fully willing to pay.”
Focusing on pulmonary disease, critical care and sleep medicine, Dr. Mapitigama accomplishes that mission through high-quality and
compassionate care across the spectrum of illnesses from outpatients to the critically ill, whose diseases inspire her research efforts and whose
experiences serve as her classroom.
“I want to work hard each day and dedicate myself to keeping people alive and families together,” she says. “I take great pride in knowing
that I am helping to positively affect someone’s life and make it better and fulfilling.” Dr. Mapitigama is also a clinical assistant professor of
medicine at Rutgers NJ Medical School.
