ROBERT SILVERMAN, MD
Believing that everyone has a right to live a life without debilitating pain, Dr. Robert Silverman provides all aspects of pain management
while treating patients with dignity and respect. Board certified in anesthesiology and pain management, he is medical director of the Valley
Institute for Pain.
“What separates my practice from others is that I offer a large spectrum of pain management options, which may include therapies (such as
HOSPI TAL AFFILIATION: Valley Hospital, Ridgewood. MEDICAL TRAINING: Northeastern Ohio Medical University (MD); Akron City
acupuncture), medications and interventions,” he says. “Also, since my practice is hospital based, I have a strong relationship with other medi-
Dr. Silverman, who works with colleagues Dr. Fani Thomson and Dr. Robin Iversen, defines success in pain management as an improve-
ment in quality of life. “That is what we strive for with all of our patients,” he says. “For some, that may be as simple as being able to transfer
from a wheelchair to a bed. For others, it may mean a return to running marathons.”
In his 16 years of diagnosing and treating pain, Dr. Silverman’s greatest sense of accomplishment has been creating and maintaining a prac-
tice where his success can be measured directly from patients. “When a patient comes back to me for a follow-up appointment and tells me
that he or she has been able to do more than before we started treatment, I have then achieved success and feel my work has been rewarded,”
