“Every breast cancer patient deserves to be cared for by a highly trained, experienced and compassionate group such as ours,”
says Dr. Michele Blackwood, medical director of the Center for Breast Health & Disease Management. As board-certified surgeons in an

Their group, which is a;liated with Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s esteemed breast cancer department, o;ers seamlessly coordinated
care from a team of specialists. “Our collaborative approach starts the moment an issue is spotted on a mammogram or ultrasound, before
it’s even diagnosed as breast cancer,” Dr. Schaefer says. Weekly meetings are held with surgeons, plastic surgeons, geneticists, oncologists
and clinical psychologists to agree on a realistic game plan for every case. That translates into e;ective, clearly defined care for
The two doctors, who welcome challenging cases and requests for second opinions, o;er women some wise advice. “Exercise more,
maintain a normal BMI and limit your alcohol,” says Dr. Schaefer. “These simple measures will lower your breast cancer risk while improving
your health overall,” Dr. Blackwood says.
