A board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in spine surgery, Dr. Charles Gatto founded the Tri-County Spine Center at
Tri-County Orthopedics. He o;ers extensive surgical experience, with a particular interest in degenerative spinal disorders. This physician
prefers to investigate every diagnostic option and exhaust all nonoperative avenues before recommending surgery.
Recognizing that back pain is a symptom, Dr. Gatto spends considerable time and energy determining its root cause. “The more specific
the diagnosis, the more focused the treatment and the better the outcome,” he says. A conservative surgeon, he may recommend pain
management, neurological treatment, psychological counseling, chiropractic treatment, or lifestyle modifications, such as nutrition, exercise
and weight management. “I derive satisfaction from helping people return to full, pain-free movement in their everyday lives,” he says.
At the Tri-County Spine Center, Dr. Gatto works with a team of physicians treating all aspects of spinal and musculoskeletal disorders.
He is also chief of the spine section in the orthopedic surgery department at Morristown Medical Center, where he helped establish New
Jersey’s first hospital center of excellence for spine surgery. Dr. Gatto is a former clinical assistant professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
An expert in workers’ compensation, he lectures and consults widely on this issue.
Dr. Gatto co-founded Kids’ Chance of New Jersey, a charity that provides more than $100,000 annually in scholarships to children whose
parents have been seriously injured or killed in workplace accidents.
