LAST DECEMBER AT OUR ANNUAL
Jersey Choice Top Doctors reception, we
had the honor of meeting Dr. Sanjeev
Kaul, a trauma surgeon at Hackensack
University Medical Center. The law firm
Brach Eichler LLC honored Kaul for his
efforts to bring health care to underserved populations around the world.
After the presentation, Kaul told us of
the many other New Jersey health professionals who undertake medical missions. His description of their work was
eye-opening. We knew this was a story
we wanted to tell.
We put veteran contributor Leslie Garisto Pfaff on the case, and sure
enough, she turned up a series of dramatic stories about doctors who regularly leave behind the comforts of New
Jersey to participate in such missions,
along with nurses, technicians and support personnel. They travel to virtually
every continent where help is needed.
They deal with medical problems that are
all but unheard of here in the States. And
they often do so at personal expense—as
well as personal risk.
We take great pride in the dedication
of these remarkable professionals—our
New Jersey neighbors—and are pleased
to present their stories (“Mission Possible,” page 70).
