Dr. Virak Tan, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hands and upper extremities, proudly announces the opening of the
Institute for Hand & Arm Surgery. This fellowship-trained hand surgeon and multiyear New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor works with
Dr. Daniel Seigerman to deliver high-quality, comprehensive care for New Jersey patients with hand and arm conditions.
Dr. Tan o;ers advanced surgical and therapeutic skills to fully treat people from shoulders to fingertips. His expertise includes joint
replacements, arthroscopic procedures, and brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgery, as well as care for fractures, arthritic problems
and deformities. “Hand surgery can be incredibly complex, involving bones, muscles and tendons—plus tiny blood vessels and nerves that
require microsurgical skills to repair,” Dr. Tan says. Honest, straightforward communication is paramount here, so patients fully understand
their diagnoses and treatments.
As a professor at Rutgers NJ Medical School, Dr. Tan established the only hand surgery fellowship in the state, and has trained 100 future
orthopedic, plastic and hand surgeons to date. “Our professional lifespan is limited,” he says. “We must pass our knowledge to the next
generation.” Dr. Tan is a board member of Health Volunteers Overseas, which sends American physicians to teach colleagues in developing
countries how to better care for patients.
