TAILGATING GETS SERIOUS
OCT 18 The classiest tailgating scene in New Jersey descends on Somerset County every
October, as more than 35,000 steeplechase fans crowd the grassy hills of Moorland Farm
for stylish autumn revelry—namely, gourmet dining and serious imbibing in designer duds.
Originally nicknamed the Hunt for the event’s rich history of fox hunting, the name has stuck,
although foxes and hunting are no longer part of the festivities. Now in its 94th year, the Hunt
presents the world’s finest equestrians competing for trophies from the National Steeplechase
Association. This year, the classy event benefits the Somerset Health Care Foundation and
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. 8 AM- 6 PM; admission, $60-$750. 50 Route 202,
Moorland Farm, Far Hills (908-685-2929, farhillsrace.org).

Christine McVie’s return to the band after a 16-year
absence. 8 PM; $49.50-$199.50. Prudential Center,
Newark (973-757-6000, prucenter.com).
