celebrates its achievements
Since its founding by the Sisters
of Saint Dominic in 1939, Caldwell
College has grown into a premiere
undergraduate and graduate institution. This year, as it commemorates
its 75th anniversary, it also celebrates
a name change from Caldwell
College to Caldwell University. “Our
new designation signals the academic
excellence for which we have become
recognized,” says Dr. Nancy Blattner,
the university’s president.
The change comes at a time when
Caldwell is welcoming its largest
freshman class in history and the
most students ever living on campus.

KEAN UNIVERSITY’S Global Business
School prepares future executives
The 21st century has brought an increased need
for an executive workforce that is ready and able
to compete on a worldwide stage. This fall, Kean
University addressed that need with the opening of
its state-of-the-art Global Business School. Esteemed
faculty from around the world teach undergraduate and MBA students a global curriculum with an
emphasis on innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. Learning is enhanced through a required
internship with a multinational company, which enables students to use their academic under-
standing in a real-world international business environment.
“U.S. companies are opening major offices worldwide and to staff them they need employees
who not only have very high academic records,
but also have experience with different cultures, experience interacting with international
management and experience in looking at
the business world through multiple lenses,
not just American lenses,” says Dr. Michael
Cooper, Dean of the Kean University College
of Business and Public Management.
Located on Kean’s Union campus, less
than 30 minutes from midtown Manhattan,
the Global Business School enables students
to become fully immersed in a business and
cultural capital: New York City.
Kean expands on its global experience
through its full English-speaking branch campus in Wenzhou, China. “Providing students the
opportunity to study business in China, which has the world’s fastest growing economy, is just one
more thing that sets our school apart from others in the nation,” Cooper says.
In addition to the core business school curriculum—which is taught with a global perspective—Kean’s Global Business School also offers courses that are crucial to today’s industry such as
research and analytics, commercial development of the internet, global operations, sustainability
and supply chain management. Small group dynamics, team learning, decision-making skills and
strategic thinking are emphasized, as is the importance of learning beyond the classroom.
Through his experience as an educator, as a senior executive at international firms and as former Dean of Rutgers Business School, Cooper was able to assemble a Global Business School Board
of Advisors consisting of CEOs and C-level executives from major multinational corporations
around the world. These board members provide internships, scholarships and mentoring and
are central to the success of the mission, goals and objectives of the school. His background also
enabled him to attract faculty representing highly-regarded Ph.D.s from a host of nations.
An honors-level program, the Global Business School admits students with an entrepreneurial
spirit who desire academic rigor. Many Kean students are first-generation Americans and, as a
first-generation college student, Cooper understands that these young people are highly motivated.
“They know how the world works outside of the United States and they are hungry to succeed,” he
says. “We will give them the tools they need.”

an Undergraduate Open House on Sunday, November 2.
“As our major corporations expand their footprints globally and build
diverse teams, they are
looking for new hires that
can be comfortable in, and
adaptable to, varied cultural environments.”
