WHEN THE LEAVES
TURN, NJ TURNS
ON THE FUN
autumn in new jersey is a wondrous thing, not just for the beauty of the changing leaves, but for
the many ways we can enjoy the season. In this issue we offer 83 different
day-trip destinations for your fall fun.
Let’s start with good, old-fashioned
pumpkin picking. We take you on an
extended tour of the wonderful Brock
Farms in Colts Neck, where the pick-
ing is easy—and we list 12 other farms
throughout the state where you can
pick-your-own. We’ve also rounded
up information on 26 fall festivals,
including such perennial favor-
ites as the once-a-year apple press-
ing at Ralston Cider Mill in Chester
on October 13, and the 35th annual
Chatsworth Cranberry Festi-
val, October 20-21.
Thinking of a more ac-
tive fall day trip? How
about a kayak tour on one of
the state’s many easily navigable
rivers or lakes? Associate editor Jac-
queline Klecak takes us along on her
kayak adventure on Monksville Reser-
voir in northern Passaic County.
Perhaps wine tasting is more your
speed. Associate editor Shelby Vittek
invites us along on three tasting tours
covering 16 Jersey wineries, all worthy
of your attention.
Are you a fan of handmade
goods? The WheatonArts Fes-
tival of Fine Craft, October 6-7
in Millville, is one of the state’s foremost gatherings of crafters. If you go,
don’t miss the Museum of American
Glass, with its outstanding collection
of art glass.
Care for a quiet country drive? Consider a jaunt on Old Mine Road, with
its slow speed limits and unforgettable
views of the Delaware River. Or simply enjoy a day at one of the 13 county
parks described in this month’s issue.
No question about it: There’s something for everyone—and every family—
when it’s autumn in New Jersey.
