● The Little Kernel Pops
I’ve been enjoying the many di;erent
flavors of miniature popcorn o;ered by
the Little Kernel brand, cofounded by
Chris Laurita of the Real Housewives of
NJ. I’m also glad to know a portion of the
company’s proceeds benefit the non-
profit organization Generation Rescue,
which is dedicated to assisting children
with autism-spectrum disorders.

great’s weeklong 1957 run at the now-defunct Sugar Hill nightclub in Newark.

● Kick It Up a Notch
On weekends, Rowan University president Ali A. Houshmand can be found in
his garage donning goggles and gloves.
Blending habanero, Thai and jalepeño
peppers, he creates
Houshmand’s Hazardous
Hot Sauce. What started
as a treat for family and
friends is now a scholar-
ship fundraiser. For a
recent party, Houshmand prepared 30
jars that sold for $10 each; he received
orders for 50 more. Sign up to receive
an e-mail when the next batch is ready
at rowan.edu/hotsauce. But be warned,
the heat is hazardous—about 100,000
Scoville units.

● Weequahic Tees O;
Weequahic Golf Course in Newark—the
best-kept secret for Essex County golfers—got a needed facelift this spring,
including an expanded parking lot and
modernized clubhouse. At deadline, the
new putting green was still in the works.
(But don’t tell anyone.)
